Martin Casella’s plays and musicals have been produced off-Broadway, along with Los Angeles, Tokyo, London, Prague, Dublin, Edinburgh, Rio, and other cities across the U.S. and Canada, and the world.
His best-known play The Irish Curse has played on four continents in several languages. It just celebrated its 20th anniversary and will soon be produced in Israel. He wrote the book for the musical Paper Moon, which played in America and Japan. His play, Miss Maude, about the 1950’s meeting between midwife Maude Callen and LIFE Magazine photographer Eugene Smith, had its Premiere in 2022. Miss Maude is optioned for film production; Casella wrote the screenplay.
He’s written film and TV scripts for Steven Spielberg, Kerry Washington, Anthony Edwards, Whoopi Goldberg, Lasse Hallstrom, Disney, Universal, Warner Brothers, CBS and HBO. He was the co-screenwriter on the animated feature The Land of Sometimes, starring Ewan MacGregor, Helena Bonham-Carter, and Mel Brooks.
His newest play TITANS, commissioned by AD Players in Houston, Texas, is a true-life story about the two American Air Force generals tasked with ending WWII’s War in the Pacific. His latest animated film musical in process is Nobody’s Princess, set in 15th-century Morocco. WGA, SAG/AFTRA, AEA, and Dramatists Guild.
