Josephine Stewart-Te Whiu
Feature Narrative, Drama
New Zealand

New Zealand, 1954, and a group of so called “delinquent” girls find themselves condemned to a remote institution on an isolated island. But Nellie (The Wilds Erana James), Daisy (Manaia Hall) and Lou (Nathalie Morris) are not giving up without a fight, rallying together to challenge the system in which they find themselves.

But the Matron (Rima Te Wiata) has other plans…

Combining a celebration of female friendship against the power of colonialism as a legislative, patriarchal and heteronormative force, We Were Dangerous is by turns dramatic, moving and funny.

Josephine Stewart-Te Whiu’s feature debut is a tight and effective movie, a celebration of women battling against the odds that never forgets its heart.
