The Most Beautiful Boy in The World
July 5 6:30 pm
Feature Documentary | 2021 | Sweden | 94 min | Directed by Kristina Lindström and Kristian Petri | Madman
Björn Andrésen was catapulted to international stardom at the age of 15 when he appeared as Tadzio opposite Dirk Bogarde’s Gustav von Aschenbach in Death in Venice (1971). Now in his sixties and living in an apartment in Sweden, Andrésen is the subject of The Most Beautiful Boy in the World – the title comes from Luchino Visconti’s description of his young star.
Tracing his life from the audition for Death in Venice through fame (and his surprise appearance in Ari Aster’s Midsommar) director’s Kristina Lindström and Kristian Petri explore what it meant for the shy, quiet Andrésen to become famous. Against the familiar story of fame, The Most Beautiful Boy in the World plays Andrésen’s biography, a poignant, human tale of a man who hides under the shadow of his own fame. With a haunting style, that plays on memories, old photographs and archival footage, this documentary film creates a fascinating and moving portrait of Andrésen.
“…a moving meditation on what it is to matter to the masses as opposed to those near you.” – Film Threat
