Some Kind of Heaven

July 2 4:30 pm

Feature Documentary | 2020 | USA | 83 min | Directed by Lance Oppenheim | Madman

Winner: Philadelphia Film Festival Best Documentary Feature

A beautifully lensed documentary that finds unexpected stories in the paradise of the Villages, 3a vast retirement community that has been dubbed “Disneyworld for retirees.”

The Villages, Florida, is the world’s largest retirement community.

Here more than 120,000 retirees spend their time enjoying their lives in a resort style utopia that combines the architecture of a mythic mid-twentieth century small-town America with golf courses, entertainment, and active community groups.

First time documentary-feature filmmaker Lance Oppenheim follows the inhabitants of this boomer paradise, and uncovers unexpected stories, in this critically acclaimed, beautifully shot, deadpan documentary.

Produced by Darren Aronofsky (director of Mother! and Requiem for a Dream), Some Kind of Heaven offers a humorous yet poignant insight into ageing, community, and the desire for a uniquely American paradise.

Screens with the short film Deb.
