Jack Clark, Jim Weir
Featured Narrative, Psychological drama

Louie’s friends want to do something a little different for his bucks’ weekend and so invite their girlfriends, including Irene, Louie’s bride-to-be, to join them.

But what looked like it would be a weekend of old friends chatting and partying descends into something more unexpected and far darker.

The film briefly nods to Ted Kotcheff’s masterwork Wake In Fright, and like Kotcheff’s film, Birdeater takes a trip into a grim manifestation of masculinity.

Written and directed by the team of Clark and Weir, Birdeater is an exceptional psychological drama.

With a cast that includes Mackenzie Fearnley (Operation Buffalo), award winning actress Shabana Azeez (In Limbo, Metrosexual, Utopia) and Ben Hunter (RFDS), Birdeater is a powerful work.

Winning the Audience Award for Best Australian Narrative Feature at the 2023 Sydney Film Festival, Birdeater is a product of genuine homegrown indie filmmaking talent.

Birdeater is dark and uncompromising in its vision of masculinity unleashed; a visceral and feral experience that is outstanding.” – Nadine Whitney, The Curb
