
Platon Theodoris is an Australian film director, producer & screenwriter. He creates films under his playful production company Big Name Studio.
Platon's second feature, existential comedy The Lonely Spirits Variety Hour was nominated for the Innovation Award at the 70th Melbourne International Film Festival. The festival described Platon as “one of the country’s most distinctive and curious filmmakers”. Critics called The Lonely Spirits Variety Hour "that rare beast - a true original" and "a hilarious, wonderfully weird delight". The film was listed at number one on The Curb’s Best Films from 2022.
After premiering at the 25th Revelation Perth International Film Festival Lonely Spirits won Best Film at the 16th Sydney Underground Film Festival and Best Actor at the 24th Festival des Antipodes in St Tropez. A bespoke theatrical release in Autumn 2023 saw packed sessions at 15 iconic cinemas around Australia. A small U.K theatrical release in February 2024 was supported by the prestigious London Australian Film Society.
Alvin’s Harmonious World of Opposites, Platon’s debut feature film premiered at the 2015 Revelation Perth International Film Festival and then won Best Film at the 9th Sydney Underground Film Festival that same year. The film's North American premiere at the 2016 Slamdance Film Festival sold out. In 2017 this magical-realist drama won the Special Jury Prize for Best First Feature at the 50th WorldFest Houston International Film Festival.
Alvin’s Harmonious World of Opposites is proudly sited as the first co-production between Australia & Indonesia. A bespoke theatrical release in Australia, Indonesia and the USA included runs at ArcLight Cinemas in Hollywood & Chicago, ACMI in Melbourne, The Golden Age Cinema in Sydney & KineForum in Jakarta.
