Mary (Hannah Lynch) lives with her mum Cynthia (Yvette Parsons), the last thing she expects is getting pregnant with by an alien… With a cast that includes Arlo Green and Jackie van Beek, Mum, I’m Alien Pregnant plays as a body horror comedy with a few unexpected twists, while a sense of joy permeates the whole movie. Another testament to the strength of New Zealand comedy with just-enough-gross-out-gasp-out-loud moments to turn this story of pregnancy and millennial malaise into something a little different.

This is the new body horror phenomenon that made everyone’s stomach turn at Sundance. Not only is this a distant relative to the early works of Peter Jackson, it also doesn’t show any visual restraint, while nicely tackling outdated clichés about motherhood.
