Filmmaker

Founding member of film production company Blue Forest, directing and producing feature and short length Documentaries & Dramas for clients including SBS and ABC. As an editor and visual effects artist Steven has worked on countless internationally recognised feature films including Frackman (2015), Top Knot Detective (2016) and Dying to Live (2018). His artistic works areimmersive and performance-based experiences using dynamic video projection, three-dimensional mapping and dynamic sound which have been exhibited at galleries including Perth Institute of Contemporary Arts, Mundaring Arts Centre, Fremantle Arts Centre and Cannery Arts Centre. Steven hosts large scale arts and music events that challenge social norms and encourage new interactions with the natural environment such as Camp Doogs (2013-2019) and Enliven Online Music and Arts Festival (2020).

Steven writes, records and performs music with acts including Injured Ninja, Selfless Orchestra, Usurper of Modern Medicine and Doublethink Prism. He is the winner of several WA Music Industry awards including ‘Most Popular Single/EP’ (2010), ‘Best Hardcore/Punk Act’ (2011), ‘Experimental Act of the Year’ (2012) and ‘Most Popular Event’ (2016).’ He has performed at festivals / events including ‘South by Southwest’ (US), ‘St. Jerome’s Laneway Festival,’ ‘Camp a Low Hum’ (NZ) and ‘Perth International Arts Festival.’ He is a frequent collaborator with esteemed Australian artist Stelarc whom he has exhibited works with at galleries / events including RMIT Gallery, The Grand Palais (FR), STRP (NL) and IOTA (CAN) and has collaborated with other artists including Chicks on Speed, Sohan Ariel Hayes and Author Tim Winton. In 2020 Steven directed his first documentary series for the ABC: Biogenesis focusing on the world of Biological Art and most recently he performed at Dark Mofo festival in Tasmania in 2021 andreleased short film ‘The Wilyabrup Project’ (2022) which is currently playing in the international film festival circuit.

Filmmaker

Loro Bardot, 26, is a Brazillian non-binary actor musician who embarked on their career at 18 with the debut EP ” Café dos Pássaros.” This album garnered attention, securing placements in magazines and TV show soundtracks. Subsequently Loro delved into scoring for films, TV, and plays, transitioning seamlessly in front of the cameras.

In 2023 they made their acting debut at the Cannes Film Festival as the co-star of the feature “Levante” (Power Alley), earning over 20 awards, including Fipresci at Cannes, Best Ibero-American Film at Palm Springs, Best Movie in Havana, and the Youth Jury Award at the Rotterdam Film Festival. Relocating to Perth, Australia, Loro now showcases their piano skills at jazz clubs, navigating new challenges as an immigrant.

Filmmaker

Matt Bolin is an independent actor/filmmaker based in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. Matt has a
passion for irreverent cinema. His work includes a diverse range of comedy, animation and
documentaries. Matt prides himself on being versatile but also strict in his belief of thinking outside
the box. He has been in the screen industry for over 10 years now and is keen to lend support to the
local film industry and its talent to showcase the best content Australia has to offer for the world to
be entertained by. Matt Bolin’s work so far has won numerous awards in a range of Hollywood,
Australian and European film festivals. The film Insufferable is a project Matt initially conceived in
2011 before revisiting it a decade later bringing on board Filmmaker Stig Weymss (founder of Mezzanine films) to direct co produce, edit, promote and rewrite the script to its final product. Insufferable is just as much a part of Stig’s passionate vision as it was initially Matt’s.

Filmmaker

As a writer, director and producer, Taylor draws on his background in musical theatre composition to create larger-than-life stories that remain personal, always approaching the next project with the mantra, “if this is the last thing I get to make, is this what I want it to be”. Taylor wrote and directed three original musicals between 2018 and 2022, The Killdeer, A Boy Wanted to, and StrawBrain, the former two of which were produced at The State Theatre Centre of WA. Taylor wrote and produced the award-winning short I Am Ghost and has worked on the crew for feature films such as Lies Within Us (2023) and Runt (2024), and TV series such as The Amazing Race (2022). Taylor secured his first professional writing credit on the web series The Curse of Baba Yaga (2023), produced by ScreenAustralia. Taylor now runs his own independent production company HoneyBomb, through which he wrote produced and directed his debut feature, Stubbornly Here. A deeply personal coming-of-age story about processing mortality at a young age, which will be making its world premiere at the 2024 Revelation Film Festival.

Filmmaker

I’m Chadai Chamoun, Director and one of the Animators for ‘Sapere Aude’. I’m an artist and 2D animator with a passion for film history and creating compelling characters and worlds. The initial idea for ‘Sapere Aude’ came to me while I was grieving, and I was reminded of how Lovecraft’s protagonists go insane when they are confronted with horrors beyond their comprehension. I hope our film will speak to this incomprehensible feeling that people often encounter when grieving a loved one.

In the future, I hope to make more independent animated films. I have a keen interest in the preservation and exhibition of animation history, and in the practical artistry of animating. I would love to find myself working in a studio which seeks to create animation that makes people feel something, whether it’s for a young or more adult audience.

Filmmaker

Paul Goldman attended the prestigious Swinburne Film and TV School in the early 80s. 

He is also a graduate of the Directors Course at the National Institute of Dramatic Art, in Sydney, and their esteemed NIDA Playwrights’ Studio.

In the mid 80s he established a specialist music video production company, THE RICH KIDS, working as Director/DP. With his early music videos winning international acclaim he moved to London, directing music videos between the UK, Australia, and America. 

He has since directed over 200 music videos and many feature length concert films, including work for Nick Cave’s various bands (The Boys Next Door, The Birthday Party, The Bad Seeds), Kylie Minogue, Missy Higgins, Paul Kelly, Billy Bragg, Jimmy Barnes, Kev Carmody, Hunters & Collectors, Kate Ceberano, The Go-Betweens, The Reels, The Drones and Crowded House. His many awards include the 1990 American MTV MVA: Best Male Video for Elvis Costello’s ‘Veronica’ and the 2007 ARIA Best Music Video Award, for Silverchair’s Neil ‘Straight Lines’.

In 1987, Goldman was Director of Photography on John Hillcoat’s acclaimed first feature film ‘GHOSTS . . . OF THE CIVIL DEAD’.

In 1991 Goldman established a new production company, CITY FILMS, continuing to direct music videos whilst making his first forays into commercials, directing advertising campaigns for numerous iconic brands and advertising agencies. 

In 2000 Paul was Second Unit Director on QUEEN OF THE DAMNED. (The sequel to Neil Jordan’s ‘Interview with the Vampire’). Produced by Sue Armstrong and Bruce Berman, Directed by Michael Rymer. 

In 2001, Paul directed his first feature film, AUSTRALIAN RULES. The screenplay, co-written by Goldman and Phillip Gwynne, won the Australian Film Industry (AFI) Best Adapted Screenplay Award. The film was in Official Selection at the Sundance Film Festival in 2002 and was the official closing night film at the Melbourne International Film Festival.

In 2002 Goldman directed THE NIGHT WE CALLED IT A DAY, an English/Australian Production, starring Dennis Hopper, David Hemmings, Melanie Griffith, Joel Edgerton and Rose Byrne. Produced by Emile Sherman, Jonathan Shteinman and legendary UK Producer Nik Powell, it was released by the Weinstein Company in America.

In 2005 Goldman directed SUBURBAN MAYHEM, produced by Leah Churchill-Brown and Jan Chapman. It premiered in the Un Certain Regard section of the Cannes Film Festival in 2006. It subsequently screened in the Vanguard section of the Toronto International Film Festival and was the official closing night film at the Melbourne International Film Festival.

In 2010 Goldman wrote and directed the feature documentary SUCH IS LIFE: The Troubled Times of Ben Cousins. Produced by Craig Griffin, this controversial portrait of a major AFL superstar, his drug addictions, and affiliations with major crime figures, was sold to the SEVEN NETWORK and screened over two nights.

In 2015, Goldman directed THE DIPLOMAT, THE ARTIST & THE SUIT: The Story of Denton, Corker, Marshall. A feature documentary, commissioned by the ABC, about the men behind Australia’s most internationally acclaimed architectural firm. 

In 2019 Paul began a feature documentary about Michael Gudinski; the maverick, trailblazing entrepreneur who changed Australian music forever. EGO: The Michael Gudinski Story,  premiered at MIFF and was released theatrically across Australia in August 2023. The AACTA Award winning documentary, went to television on the SEVEN NETWORK in early 2024.

In 2022 Paul directed KID SNOW. Set in 1971, the story of two immigrant Irish brothers, tent boxers, and the woman who comes between them. Produced by Lizzette Aitkin, Bruno Charlesworth, Megan Wynn and Matthew Gledhill, and filmed around Kalgoorlie, W.A. It will be released theatrically in 2024 through Madman.

Paul is currently developing a feature documentary – SNAPPER: The Crazy Life & Times of Rennie Ellis, a photographer who created an iconic and provocative portrait of Australia society at work and play across the decades until his sudden death in 2003. VicScreen and Screen Australia are major financiers.

Paul continues to develop various scripted television and feature film projects.

In August 2023 he was Guest Presenter on the ABC iconic music video show RAGE, programming and discussing his favourite music videos.  

Filmmaker

Ian Haig works across media, from video, sculpture, drawing, technology based media and installation. Haig’s practice refuses to accept that the low and the base level are devoid of value and cultural meaning. His body obsessed themes can be seen throughout a large body of work over the last twenty years. Previous works have looked to the contemporary media sphere and its relationship to the visceral body, the degenerative aspects of pervasive new technologies, to cultural forms of fanaticism and cults, to ideas of attraction and repulsion, body horror, the defamiliarisation and confrontation of the human body.

His work has been exhibited in galleries and video/media festivals around the world. Including exhibitions at: The Australian Centre for Contemporary Art, Melbourne; The Ian Potter Museum of Art, Melbourne; The Experimental Art Foundation, Adelaide; The Australian Centre for the Moving Image, Melbourne; Gallery of Modern Art, Brisbane; The Museum of Modern Art, New York; Artec Biennale – Nagoya, Japan; Centre Georges Pompidou, Paris; China Millennium Monument Art Museum, Beijing; Museum Villa Rot, Burgrieden-Rot, Germany; Kunstlerhaus Bethanien, Berlin, Germany; The Museum of the Moving Image, New York; The Havana Biennial, Cuba. In addition his video work has screened in over 150 festivals internationally including The Ann Arbor film festival, US; VideoBrasil, Sao Paulo, Brazil and Rencontres Internationales, Paris/Berln.  In 2003 he received a fellowship from the New Media Arts Board of the Australia Council and in 2013 and 2017 he curated the video art shows Unco and Very Unco at The Torrance Art Museum in Los Angeles.

Head of Sales and Acquisitions, Umbrella Entertainment 

Nick has spent his entire career in the film business, working across both exhibition and distribution. Prior to Umbrella, Nick has been Head of Sales and Acquisitions at Icon Films for a decade. He has also been Head of Dendy Cinemas and held senior management roles at the Sydney Film Festival and Hoyts Cinemas.

Nick has also served as a board member of Independent Cinemas Australia from 2010-2023 and Vice President of the Australian Independent Distributors Association 2017-2023.

Durga Bahadur Karki, known as SAYAD, is a passionate filmmaker from Nepal with over six years of experience in the film industry. Despite his agricultural background and lack of formal certificates, he has made significant contributions to Nepali cinema through his roles as a writer, director, actor, and editor. He has also been actively involved in conducting workshops and seminars for aspiring filmmakers. He aims for global recognition of his work in filmmaking, driven by his extensive experience and dedication to the art.

Filmmaker

Finnish Australian Saara Lamberg is a director, actor, writer and producer. They have released three narrative feature films, all of which premiered at the Cannes Film Festival Cinephiles selection,  including THE LIES WE TELL OURSELVES. They have won several awards including the Best Feature, Best Director and Best Actor in various different film festivals and they also won the Cinema Australia Audience Choice Award for their first feature Innuendo. Their second feature Westermarck Effect was released 2022. Since The Lies We Tell Ourselves, they have also completed films COMA and CONVERSATIONS WITH SPITHEAD, release details to be revealed soon.   

A self-confessed workaholic, Lamberg makes films, performs poetry and standup comedy, run marathons slowly but often and cuddles every cat and dog they come across. They call Melbourne home, until love or art (what’s the difference?) will whisk them away again. They travel light, but carry all the necessary emotional baggage that’s required for creating believable catharsis.

Boorloo’s noisiest boys Injured Ninja have been antagonising live music spaces and helping build creative communities since 2007. From SXSW in 2011 to Dark Mofo in 2021, Injured Ninja remain unapologetically loud and unable to die, bringing to both tiny venues and major arts festivals alike their own unique brand of sonic annihilation, surrealist humour and multi-disciplinary, multi-media live performance.

Harry Quinlan is a Melbourne-based writer and director. His most recent short film “A Rose for Katrina” was selected for the 2024 Tribeca Festival as well as St Kilda Film Festival, Flickerfest
and Peninsula Film Festival.

His previous short “Favour on the Fourth Floor” was nominated for Best Short at CinefestOz and
won Director’s Choice at the Sydney Underground Film Festival as well as Best Film and
People’s Choice at the Warrandyte Film Feast.

He recently collaborated with other Melbourne-based filmmakers Matt Wallace and Mark Day on the Screen Australia-funded anthology web series “Hot Bread,” which collected Best Comedy at Melbourne Web Fest in 2023.

In 2020 he wrote and directed the web series “Fairy Floss”, which premiered at Melbourne Web Fest where it was nominated for Best Screenplay and Best Comedy.

Filmmaker

Julie Ryan is a prolific and award winning Australian feature film producer who has produced, co-produced or executive produced, 16 feature films over her 20+ year career wth many of her films being officially selected for all major A List international film festivals. Her achievements include H is for Happiness, which received a Special Mention by the Children’s Jury, Generation Kplus Berlin International Film Festival 2020, and won the prestigious 2019 Cinefest Oz Film Prize; Hotel Mumbai, the most successful Australian film to release internationally in 2019; Ten Canoes, the Un Certain Regard Special Jury Prize winner at the Cannes International Film Festival 2006; and Australian box office smash hit in 2011 Red Dog.

In 2023 Julie was Executive Producer on the much praised SXSW selected horror film Late Night With The Devil. Her other feature film credits include Satellite Boy (Toronto FF 2012, Berlin FF 2013); My Tehran For Sale (Toronto FF 2009); Alexandra’s Project (Berlin FF 2003); The Tracker (Venice FF 2002); Tracks (Venice FF, Toronto FF & Telluride Film Festivals 2013); 100 Bloody Acres (Winner Best Film, Midnight X-treme, Sitges 2013); and Scare Campaign
(Winner Best Film, MonsterFest 2015). Julie has received eight Best Film nominations at the AFI/AACTA awards over her 20 plus career including nominations for H is for Happiness and Hotel Mumbai in 2019, and won for Ten Canoes and Red Dog.

Julie’s production company Cyan Films is based in Adelaide, South Australia, and she formed a producing partnership with Ari Harrison’s Sanctuary Pictures production company in March 2023.

Julie has shot films in many remote regions around Australia including Arnhem Land, the Kimberley, the Pilbara, Alice Springs, the Flinders Ranges, Albany and Beechworth. Internationally she has worked in Iran, Cyprus, French Guiana and India.

Filmmaker

Ben has been a full time videographer for close to a decade, with a focus on producing Behind the Scenes content for Film and TV. With years spent studying the niche and learning directly from some of the top BTS producers around the world, Ben sees a lot of opportunities for innovation across the industry and hopes to take the next step to build upon the high standard of content that inspired him.

Choi Soohyuk has worked as crew member in the short film industry since 2008, transitioning through commercial and independent feature films. Choi is now working as a director for with an OTT drama production team. KARMA is his short directorial debut.
