This epic ‘future past’ film from 1936 was based on a story by HG Wells and was the most ambitious project to ever come from producer Alexander Korda’s London Studios.
Things to Come is a film like no other and charts an entire century; wars, plague, future technologies, underground cities, peace, uprisings and even the beginnings of space exploration. It was a huge budget extravaganza for the time and is still hugely entertaining. It is laced with philosophical ponderings over the human propensity to war and our unending quest for knowledge. Look out for the moments of stunning production design by Bauhaus artist and experimental filmmaker László Moholy-Nagy.
