In Stuffed, director Erin Derham examines contemporary taxidermy, turning her focus on numerous taxidermists and examining the nature of their craft. Avoiding the clichés that could be associated with taxidermy, Stuffed offers a fascinating window on the various forms and its practitioners, presenting taxidermists who are artists, taxidermists who work in natural history museums, even taxidermists who embrace the cryptozoological, yes I said cryptozoological.
What becomes clear in this documentary is that taxidermy is more often about wonder and life, not death, and that any assumptions you hold about the art form are probably incorrect.
