1 Finnerty Street, Fremantle
Sat 26 May – Sun 15 July
Two moving image works by Semiconductor (Ruth Jarman and Joe Gerhardt): Brilliant Noise and Black Rain, presented as part of Revelation Perth International Film Festival’s ongoing collaborative partnership with Fremantle Arts Centre.
Using scientific data, Semiconductor create powerful, evocative works that explore both art and science. In Brilliant Noise the artists use the data archives from solar observatories to create a stunning depiction of the sun, solar particles, solar wind, as white noise. Using time-lapse images, Semiconductor create a stunning representation of the sun, accompanied by a soundtrack that translates the brightness itself into sound. The overall effect, presented as a multi-channel work across three screens, is an evocative powerful work.
In Semiconductor’s Black Rain, Heliospheric Imager visual data - solar winds and coronal mass ejections from the sun – are assembled into a single screen work.
Semiconductor Artists’ Talk, and panel discussion examining the intersections and possibilities of science and art featuring Ruth Jarman, Joe Gerhardt and SymbioticA Director Oron Catts.
Friday 13 July from 6:30pm at Fremantle Arts Centre.
