Official Selection: Big Sky Doc Film Fest
In telling the story of film censorship in the USA, director Joe Tropea focuses primarily on the Maryland Board of Censors, famously the longest operating censorship board in the country, running from 1916 until 1981. Looking at the power the Maryland Board held over filmmakers and audiences alike, as well as the films and filmmakers who fell fowl of these censors, the story told in Sickies Making Films is that of cinema itself.
Combining interviews - including, of course, with the always wonderful John Waters - and a wide range of archive footage, Sickies Making Films is a celebration of the cinema and freedom of expression. Essential viewing for anyone interested in the history of film.
Screens with the short film Fucking Drama.
