We love Johnny Cash. Always have. Always will. Up until this documentary, we also thought we knew a lot about him, but after this lovely film...well there’s a whole other side that had no voice; his first wife, Vivian Liberto.
Early in Cash’s life as an airforce trainee well before his music career, their paths cross and a romance that turns into marriage emerges. This sparkling portrait looks at their lives from the inside, often contradicting basically the only thing we know of her from the film Walk the Line. What we see is a woman trapped in a time and a lifestyle with building pressure and intense scrutiny alongside her partner’s career veering in all manner of directions.
Containing all manner of never before seen clips, photographs and interviews with her daughters, this endlessly fascinating film is a must for music lovers and for those who want to dig that little bit deeper into the other and often voiceless side of the music industry.
Screens with the short film Silver Lining.
