Q&A: Book-To-Film At The Backlot team
Telling the story of a Japanese prisoner of war camp, with a cast that includes David Bowie, Tom Cinti, Ryichi Sakanoto, Takeshi Kitano and Jack Thompson, Merry Christmas Mr Lawrence, has been described by Akira Kurosawa and Christopher Nolan as among their favourite films.
First screened at Cannes Film Festival in 1983, to celebrate the fortieth anniversary of the film’s release and to commemorate the death of first-time soundtrack composer Ryuichi Sakamoto, for which he won a 1984 BAFTA Award for Best Film Music, Revelation are proud to present a rare screening of Merry Christmas, Mr Lawrence.
Based on Sir Laurens van der Post’s books The Seed and the Sower (1963) and The Night of the New Moon (1970), this special screening will be introduced by Perth’s Book To Film group.
