“In Dorset nobody can hear you scream” has to be the best tagline we’ve seen for a while, as amateur thespians stage our favourite horror-science-fiction hybrid on stage.
Alien On Stage tells the story of a group of amateur thespians who eschew doing yet another pantomime (“its behind you!”) and instead decide to produce Alien as their annual theatrical production.
The cast – most drawn from the local bus company – are dedicated and largely enthused, although whether the small West Country town they live in is ready for a production of Alien may be a different matter.
With their broad west country accents, the cast and backstage team navigate the complexities of transforming a claustrophobic movie to a community stage production, and them something unexpected happens…
An absolute joy to watch, Alien On Stage is a unique celebration of the twin joys of community theatre and sci-fi-horror, a story that combines naïve enthusiasm and a gutsy drive, that is by turns hilarious and poignant and a surprisingly human story.
“Much like Ridley Scott’s film, the documentary is a celebration of working men and women co-operating against all odds to get their alien out.” – Projected Figures
