Feature Narrative / 2021 / Australia / 61min / Directed by Constantine Costi
A visual and aural feast, A Delicate Fire combines the spectacle of cinema and the power of opera to create a work that pays homage to 17th-century composer Barbara Strozzi.
A Delicate Fire artfully translates Strozzi’s stunning music to the screen, led by mezzo-soprano Anna Dowsley and soprano Taryn Fiebig from baroque opera company, Pinchgut Opera, taking the audience through an almost dreamlike version of modern Australia, the film explores the nature of love through the power of the opera, performance, and a narrative that combines love, loss, and heartbreak.
Among Constantine Costi’s credits include directing La Traviata on Sydney Harbour for Opera Australia and assistant director of William Kentridge’s production of Wozzeck.
