2008 CONFERENCELean and compact - just the way we like it - this year's conference and discussion platform takes in everything taking a chance on writing for TV, new directions in WA screen culture, the state of play of genre filmmaking in Australia and a special session by Perth SAE with film Guru David Stratton. A DAY OF HORROR Proudly presented by Edith Cowan University A panel on the horror film genre will be held to discuss the Australian Horror / Genre Film and its current state, how to fund a horror film, making a horror film and film distribution on the indie / horror festival circuit plus screen a few shorts. Special guests include Dr Dean Bertram (ANOH festival director), Dalibor Bakovic (NSW horror filmmaker) and Richard Wolstoncroft (Melbourne Underground Film Festival director and anti-censorship campaigner) A must for horror movie fans and enthusiasts.

WRITING & PRODUCING CUTTING EDGE TV Presented in association with the Australian Writers' Guild Graham Duff & Courtney Gibson Graham Duff will introduce his own TV work, and discuss with the ABC’s Courtney Gibson the production of radical and innovative TV.
Graham Duff has written the cult psychodrama / dark comedy Ideal staring Johnny Vegas for BBC 3 TV. Now in its 4th series, with 33 episodes screened, the programme continues to reshape the boundaries of traditional television, with guests including Mark E Smith and Julia Davis.
His previous credits include the Steve Coogan comedy / horror series Dr Terrible’s House of Horrible, a tribute to the golden era of Hammer Films, also produced for the BBC, featuring guests Honor Blackman and Simon Pegg.
Besides writing for TV, Duff has also written for BBC Radio, and is the creator of science-fiction sit-com Dr Nebulous, staring Mark Gatiss and David Warner and featuring guests such as David Tennant. Courtney Gibson is Executive Head Content Creation at ABC TV.

SCREEN CULTURE WA STRATEGIC DISCUSSION Presented by ScreenWest With a solid production base and a critical creative mass building a very strong head of steam in WA, what role can screen culture play in assisting local creative development? ScreenWest is currently reviewing its screen culture guidelines and is keen to take this opportunity during Rev to examine the state of play of screen culture in WA and explore the business, critical and practical and exhibition opportunities that conferences, film festivals and similar activity can provide.
Designed to engage the production and (screen) cultural sectors, this session is an open discussion platform to interrorgate the relationships and work toward structuring potent and viable, interlocking and inspired production, distribution and exhibition opportunities and networks as well as feed into the critical health of the industry.
Join a panel of local and national luminaries as we examine these complex and developing relationships.

DAVID STRATTON IN PERTH / 12 - 13 JULY, 2008 SAE Institute, Perth, is delighted to present an exclusive, two-day seminar with Australia’s leading film critic. David Stratton, co-host of the ABC’s “At the Movies”, has spent a lifetime reviewing films. The Perth film community now has the opportunity to meet one of the world’s most passionate cinema-goers for an informative and thoroughly entertaining seminar.
Saturday, 12 July (11am - 5pm) will focus on what makes a good film, the history of Australian cinema and the extraordinary life of David Stratton. Clips from a wide range of Australian films will be screened throughout the day. The seminar will take the form of an in-depth interview, conducted by SAE Film Department Head, Burleigh Smith
Sunday, 13 July (9:30am - 7:30pm) will involve a presentation titled “A History of World Cinema in a Day”, where Mr. Stratton will condense his ten-year Sydney University course into one day, discussing scenes from a great many films and presenting several features in their entirety.
