San Francisco Doomed
Danny Plotnick is one of the true pioneers of the DIY underground scene that emerged in the mayhem of the post punk '80s. He has produced a string of short, wild, vibrant, sexy and smart films which celebrate twisted pop culture, the counterculture, and ever-so-slightly tweaked human relationships.
For San Francisco's Doomed Plotnick will be presenting a selection of his films, including Out Of Print - a celebration of the treasure hunt required to find quality culture in the '80s and '90s (before the Internet took over the world). Swingers Serenade a truly incredible realization, this is a film based on a script found in an old 1960 copy of Better Movie Making which suggests that some aspiring filmmakers had more on their mind than simply documentaing the rituals of Thanksgiving and Christmas. I, Socky the story of a rogue sock monkey, and Dumbass From Dundas a movie which has a resonance with anybody who has lunkheads for pals.
His movies were described by Raygun Magazine as "a super-laugh stone groove riot fest. And they're very intelligent. As formal exercises in control and comedy, Plotnick's films approach the Marx Brothers. As set-ups, the films are almost up there with Andy Kaufman". High praise indeed.
