Music Camera

Film Synopsis

Music Camera
Twenty years of music video from Western Australia
Curated by Cat Hope and Andrew Ewing

Music Camera presents an eclectic mix of music video from Western Australian
filmmakers and musicians. Taking a much looser definition of the genre
‘music video’, Music Camera features a range of films accompanied only by
music, not necessarily by bands to promote their albums. A broad range of
works that interrogate the idea of the music video at it’s core will be
shown – highpoints, low points, restrictions and possibilities.

Looking at a range of material from 1990 to date, Hope and Ewing curate the
most artistically adventurous videos created during this time. Featuring
works that investigate the relationship of sound and image, the program will
feature a range of animations, home made and professionally made videos from
a range of music and directorial styles.

Music by artists such as Snowman, Thou Gideon, French Rockets, Found:
Quantity of Sheep, Kill Devil Hills, Mystic Eyes, Sushalini, and Roly Skender are
included.  Directors include Steve McCallum Clayton Jauncy, Retarded Eye,
Sam Landells, Noah Norton and many more.

Cat Hope is the Head of composition and music technology at WAAPA and Andrew
Ewing lectures in film and video at Edith Cowan University. They are both
involved in the Perth music scene have made a number of music videos
together and independently.
