Multi award-winning director and screenwriter Lynn (Humpday, My Effortless Brilliance) Shelton’s fourth feature is a comedy / drama that focuses on the relationships between a trio of friends staying at a remote cabin. Jack (the always great Mark Duplass, familiar from last year’s Mars) is adrift in the shadow of his dead brother when he’s offered the chance to spend a weekend alone at a cottage owned by the family of his best friend Iris (Emily Blunt). Little do they realise that Hannah (Rosemarie DeWitt), Iris’s sister, is also staying at the cottage following the collapse of her relationship. And then Iris makes a surprise visit.
What follows is an honest, simple and warm character driven movie that Twitchfilm described as “one of the great highlights of Tribeca 2012.”
The performances are great throughout (as expected from a first-class cast) and Shelton’s script and direction have a genuine humanity and emotional depth. Most importantly the comic elements are never allowed to become fluff at the expense of the story. Your Sister’s Sister - an impressive three-hander in every respect - is a great achievement for Shelton.
Following the first screening the Opening Night Party swings into action with DJs, drinks, food, live music from local surf outfit Sea of Tunes and special guests inside the Astor Theatre
