Sita Sings the Blues

Film Synopsis

Sita Sings The Blues
Director: Nina Paley
Year: 2008
Country: USA
Duration: 82 minutes

A beautifully realised animated feature based on The Ramayana of Valmiki. Vividly stylised in bold, almost luminescent colours, this film combines various styles of animation, drawing on sources as varied as Hindu artworks, bold quasi-art nouveau abstractions, and post-Betty Boop song and dance routines.

Through numerous layers of storytelling that examine the complexity of mythology, religion, history, culture, family, and, most of all, the nature of love, Sita Sings The Blues draws parallels between the ancient Hindu text and modern attitudes to love and fidelity.

Featuring an incredible score of 1920s jazz numbers by Annette Hanshaw and various music by Masaladosa, this is a remarkable and enormously enjoyable film however you choose to approach it.

Under-15s must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Please note the film features some minor sexual themes.

Opening Night includes lashings of drinks from Little Creatures and Wise Wines, things to nibble on and lots of fun.
