Despite having endured a strange and difficult outsider’s childhood, Henry has found himself a dull middle-management job turning down loan requests in a local bank, and a suitable girlfriend who will probably marry him. He is doing exactly what’s expected of him and his life is dutifully mapped by safe predictability. Then everything certain in his life backfires. His girlfriend dumps him and he loses his job, both in suitably absurd fashion. An accidental collision with a strange rejected bank customer makes Henry realise that he would be better off living in Spain. However, a chance encounter with a woman in a local furniture store changes everything. And then there’s the matter of helping his incarcerated mother.
Original takes the template of the classic screwball comedy and gives it a uniquely modern Northern European spin. Original is a movie for anybody who has felt a little different and frustrated by their life, it may just be the first romantic comedy for suicide girls and indie guys.
