A pitch perfect low key drama / deadpan comedy about a family of criminals living in the south of England. Short on gangster glamour, the emphasis here is on building characters and creating an authentic world in which the paranoia of the family can slowly unravel. Co-written and directed by Ben Wheatley - who directed several episodes of cult TV comedy Ideal - Down Terrace is shot through with comic observations of social interactions, family relationships and crime.
Filmed in eight-days and cast with real life father and son Robert and Robin Hill (who also wrote the deceptively tight script), the natural performances in Down Terrace will draw you into the family's web, even as the darker aspects of the story emerge.
