Faubourg Treme: The Untold Story of Black New Orleans
Director: Dawn Logsdon
Year: 2008
Country: America
Duration: 57 minutes

New Orleans has always been different from the rest of the American South, Faubourg Treme explains why. Telling the stories of free slaves, integrated education and African Americans taking high public office – all in the mid 19th century – this film examines a little known aspect of America’s past.
With a history of equality and shared community this film presents a radically different image of New Orleans from the mainstream media. Yet throughout the film the spectre of Katrina and the deeply cynical politics of Bush era America loom large, offering an inevitable and tragic background to the history of this city.
