Dir: Denny Tedesco
The Beach Boys, Frank and Nancy Sinatra, The Monkees, Phil Spector, Sonny and Cher, Herb Alpert, Sam Cooke, Sammy Davis Junior, Dean Martin, The Mamas and the Papas, and many others, all recorded with The Wrecking Crew – the crème de la crème of LA session musicians who between them cut some of the greatest West Coast pop records of all time, in addition to working on the themes to classic TV shows such as Batman.
The Wrecking Crew tells the story of these session musicians, with the stars, the bands, musicians and producers all contributing with tales and insights into those unique musicians who crafted the sound at the birth of West Coast pop music – from surf and drag pop to the wall of sound, from rock and roll and beyond, The Wrecking Crew played it all, making some of the best loved music of the era. Punctuated throughout with archive footage, The Wrecking Crew is a both history and celebration.
Director Denny Tedesco crafts an honest and loving homage to these session musicians, the sounds and the energy of the era. Like Muscle Shoals (which screened at Revelation 2013), The Wrecking Crew offers new insights into now-seen-as classic music, and will excite and inspire an entirely new audience as well as satisfy old fans.
