Revelation’s A Focus on Focus workshop explores how old-school filmmaking techniques can be applied to today’s DSLR cameras with Rusty Geller S.O.C.
Rusty Geller S.O.C has been in the motion picture industry in the US and Australia for almost 40 years. After graduating Columbia College Hollywood film school, he spent 8 years shooting visual effects at Universal Studios, Film Effects of Hollywood and at Walt Disney Production, establishing himself as a camera operator in the Hollywood Camera Union Local 600.
In 1984 he took a leap into the new field of Steadicam and spent the next 20 years working on over 300 productions: TV shows, sitcoms, features, commercials, music clips and corporates.
He has worked on productions such as; Australia, The Birdcage, The Sleepover Club, The Bernie Mac Show, The Naked Gun 2½ and so much more.
Rusty has taught filmmaking at Central TAFE and FTI. Rusty is currently completing his PhD at WAAPA, researching ‘the camera operator as a performing artist’.
Although shooting in digital is much easier because you can do more in less time.‘Focus on Focus’ takes a look at some of the important factors filmmakers overlook with automatic functions on DSLR cameras.
