Arts journalists and editors are busy, overworked, and underappreciated people who are bombarded day and night by requests for free publicity. You’re an artist, a musician, a filmmaker, or a performer who needs people to know about your work – how do you stand out from the pack without resorting to actually paying for advertising? Travis Johnson will teach you.
As the Local Music & arts Editor for X-Press and now the News Editor for Filmink, Travis has seen literally thousands of press releases - and some of them have even been turned into articles. Those are the ones that are clear, concise, and easy to work with – they’re also the exception to the rule. In this seminar, Travis will teach you how to present your artistic opuses in a way that makes them, if not impossible to ignore, then at least significantly boosts your chances of being written about.
This is practical workshop covering writing style, formatting, imagery and more, exposing the nuts and bolts principles behind effective self-promotion to the arts media. Participants are asked to bring along a press release of artist’s biography of their own devising for ritual dissection.
