On August 1, 1966, Charles Whitman climbed the University of Texas Tower and started shooting.
By the end of the day sixteen people had been killed and many more wounded.
Based on first person testimony, Tower tells the story of the fateful day through a combination of rotoscope animation and archive footage. Focusing on the victims and the first responders, rather than on the killer’s back-story, Tower traces the events as they unfold, and thanks to the nuanced use of animation, offers a genuinely human quality to the harrowing events.
Winning seventeen awards, including amongst others, the Austin Film Critics Association, Boston Society of Film Critics Awards, Critics Choice Documentary Awards , and South by South West, Tower is an exceptional, powerful work that presents a human side to a tragic day.
Screens with the short film Ghost.
