In an attempt to save his struggling mattress business, sixty-something Michael Flynn reinvents himself as the eccentric online personality ‘Mattress Mick’ under the guidance of his good friend Paul Kelly.
Burdened with debts and living on the breadline with his family in inner city Dublin, Paul yearns to get a full time contract working with Mick. Using all his marketing savvy and entrepreneurial skills, he embarks on a mission to make Mattress Mick a viral sensation. But as business begins to grow, their friendship starts to implode.
Colm Quinn paints an unflinchingly honest picture of Mick and Paul and their roller-coaster ride on the fringes of the sometimes absurd world of mattress sales.
At times gut-wrenchingly honest and at times surreal, the story is pure Dublin in its humour yet remarkable for its intimacy - middle aged Irishmen are not renowned for their emotional honesty! Quinn has managed to combine marketing glitz and the best of Irish storytelling to tell a story of post GFC Ireland.
